Becoming a Tripawd at 13

Sunny’s Last Day As A Quadruped

Well the day has come, it is Sunny’s last day as a quadruped.  For him nothing really changed.  He lead a relaxing day of laying in bed while we worked to pay for his surgery.  When I got home I made sure to go outside and just spend a little time playing ball with him.  This is about the only game he has ever been interested in.  He gives new meaning to the term “indoor” dog.  His ideal day is spending 22 hours in bed with a squeaky toy or bone or better yet, both.   However, with my insistence we played a little ball.  It was a lovely spring evening.

One thing I have worried about is that he wouldn’t be able to do this as easily after surgery.  Maybe Sunny was looking to subconsciously allay my fears to rest though since after 4 throws he decided to sit down as seen in the photo above. He also failed to bring the ball all the way back to me once.  So maybe he is already practicing to be a tripawd?  Tomorrow is the big day.  I’m anxious about his surgery, but I’m also ready for it to be over so we can start the road to recovery.

We have always joked that Sunny is our  “old man dog.”  He has never really been active and even when our other dogs used to pay with each other he would run over and break it up.  He would prefer if everyone just sat quietly.  So we will, both tonight and following his surgery.  We will sit quietly as long as he needs until he can play ball again.

I just went back and caught up on all the blogs of sweet Sunny, including photos, and they ar ADORABLE photos! I love his banner and the photo you posted today. Sunny looks so happy, so content, so Regal by his ball. It really is a wonderful photo.

It’s such a delight to get to more about Sunny today! It sounds like being a tripawd won’t be a hindrance at all to Sunny’s day to day routine of “being an old man”. I love that he didn’t bring the ball back after a few.throws…nope, just gonna sit here and relax outdoors for awhile….if you want the ball, come.on.over here and get it!

Update us as soon as he’s out of surgery tomorrow. Guess.he will be spending the night. When you go pick Sunny ul, don’t even bother looki.g at his.incision. Just look into his druggy eyes.and tell him what a good boy he is!!

Stay connected! Recovery is no picnic for a couple.of weeks! Let us know if you have any questions at all!

    Lots of hugs!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I will make sure to update later today once we hear how the surgery went. They told me today he will most likely come home tomorrow. I’m sure I will be posting plenty of questions over on the forums. 🙂

Prayers for Sunny and your family. It’s a lil tough the first few weeks from all the pain meds but it definitely gets better soon! My girl is one month ampuversary today and is already running around and playing ball again. She is 10 going on 2 (😀) and being a tripawd hasn’t slowed her down a bit, neither will it Sunny. You got this!

Congrats on your one month ampuversary! Your girl sounds like Sunny, he may be old, but every once and while the puppy still comes out.

Prayers headed your way for a smooth surgery and fast recovery. Today is our last day as a quadruple also. This road is only another journey andI’m glad I found this group to help me travel through it.
