Well the day has come, it is Sunny’s last day as a quadruped. For him nothing really changed. He lead a relaxing day of laying in bed while we worked to pay for his surgery. When I got home I made sure to go outside and just spend a little time playing ball with him. This is about the only game he has ever been interested in. He gives new meaning to the term “indoor” dog. His ideal day is spending 22 hours in bed with a squeaky toy or bone or better yet, both. However, with my insistence we played a little ball. It was a lovely spring evening.
One thing I have worried about is that he wouldn’t be able to do this as easily after surgery. Maybe Sunny was looking to subconsciously allay my fears to rest though since after 4 throws he decided to sit down as seen in the photo above. He also failed to bring the ball all the way back to me once. So maybe he is already practicing to be a tripawd? Tomorrow is the big day. I’m anxious about his surgery, but I’m also ready for it to be over so we can start the road to recovery.
We have always joked that Sunny is our “old man dog.” He has never really been active and even when our other dogs used to pay with each other he would run over and break it up. He would prefer if everyone just sat quietly. So we will, both tonight and following his surgery. We will sit quietly as long as he needs until he can play ball again.
